Jim Blake
Jim Blake was born in Oakland, CA in 1959. He received his B.S.E.E. from U.C. Berkeley in 1981, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1988. He worked as a microwave engineer at Ford Aerospace in Palo Alto, CA from 1981 to 1984. From 1988 to 1991 he was a Research Scientist at Honeywell in Phoenix, AZ working on fiber optic gyroscopes. From 1991 to 1999 Dr. Blake was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX where he received the Select Young Faculty award and was granted early tenure. In 1999 Dr. Blake co-founded NxtPhase in Phoenix, AZ, concentrating on commercializing fiber optic current sensors for high-voltage applications. He continued at NxtPhase as Director of R&D and then Vice President of Engineering until its acquisition by Areva T&D in January 2009. Currently he is a Senior Expert and the Director of the Digital Instrument Transformer Competency Center for Alstom | Grid., in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Blake has over 75 technical publications and holds over 30 patents.
