May 13, 2003 - Dr. James Blake & Dr. Farnoosh
Rahmatian (both R & D Directors at NxtPhase) have been named
among the "50 Key Information Technology Players in Energy" by Houston-based
energy consultancy, RaderEnergy.
Dr. Rahmatian & Dr. Blake were recognized
for their work in the design of the innovative NxtPhase fiber optic
voltage & current sensors.
The Information Technology Players in Energy
Awards, sponsored by Schlumberger Sema, are designed to recognize
individuals making pioneering achievements in innovation, creativity,
problem resolution, & future potential. It also honors corporations
with leading technological solutions to industry problems or new
uses for existing technology that benefit the global energy community.

July, 2002 - NxtPhase was named winner of an R&D 100 award for
the NXVCT Optical Voltage & Current Sensor. Sponsored by R&D Magazine,
this prestigious award recognizes innovative technology judged to
be among the 100 most technologically significant new products of
the year. A banquet for the 2002 R&D 100 winners is scheduled for
October 16th at the Navy Pier in downtown Chicago.
Now in its 40th year, the R&D 100 awards program is designed to
honor significant commercial promise in products, materials or processes
developed by the international research & development community.
Past winners include such breakthrough products as the halogen lamp,
antilock brakes, & the liquid crystal display. Technologies are
nominated in open competition & judged by technical experts selected
by the Illinois-based magazine.
June 14, 2001 - Presented jointly to NxtPhase, BC Hydro, the BC Advanced Systems Institute, & the University of British Columbia, the Excellence in Technology Innovation Award highlights the promise of this innovative voltage sensing technology. The award recognizes superior achievement in an advanced technology based on criteria that include: breakthrough innovation, differentiation, quality, & practical application.
"This partnership is an outstanding example of the success that
can be achieved when industry, research funding agencies & university
partners work toward a common vision. This leading-edge technology
comes at a time when greater control & accurate measurement of
electric power are urgently needed by the power industry." Jim
Gurney, BC Hydro's Strategic Research & Development Manager

Feb 8, 2000 - APT Power Technologies & the University of Manitoba
win First Prize for the NSERC 2000 Synergy Award for APT's submission
"Leading Edge Protective Relays for Electrical Utilities."
Across Canada, universities & industries are working together
to generate new & creative ways to put our country at the forefront
of emerging knowledge-based world economy.
"Today, the strength of a nation is measured not by the weapons
it wields, but by patents it produces; not by the territory it controls,
but by the ideas it advances; not only by the wealth of its resources,
but by the resourcefullness of its people. In such a world, successful
nations will only be those that foster a culture of innovation.
They will be those that create new knowledge & bring the product
of that knowledge quickly to market. Our goal as a nation must be
to lead that way." - The Honourable Paul Martin, P.C., M.P., Minister
of Finance, February 2000
The Synergy award is a national competition organized jointly by
NSERC & The Conference Board of Canada. The award recognizes effective
collaboration between universities & industry. While competition
in the power utility industry is aggressive, the APT Power Technologies
product line remains a world class competitor with a growing global
customer base. The national recognition is a credit to the entire
APT team who continue to maintain APT's industry leading profile
as an innovative provider of products & solutions to the global
electric utility market.
