Transmission & Distribution   Move Over CTs and PTs

The NxtPhase Optical Voltage sensor replaces conventional CTs and PTs is a unique optical sensor that accurately measures voltage over the range of transmission voltages from 138 kV to 500 kV. The sensor employs an array of optical Pockels cells within an advanced hollow core composite insulator. The wide separation of the high-voltage and ground electrodes reduces dielectric stresses and eliminates the need for mineral oil and cellulose or SF6 insulation.

The reduced size and weight compared to conventional oil-filled equipment allows placement in compact substations, or in retrofit applications where space may be limited.

NXVT Advantages for Power Transmission and Distribution:

Utility Metering and Protection Accuracy
The NXVT design permits measurements to be made with the highest possible accuracy and stability. The performance exceeds IEC Class 0.2 and IEEE Class 0.3 accuracy requirements to address stringent revenue metering requirements. The NXVT also exceeds IEC Class 3P protection accuracy allowing the same device to be used for relaying and utility metering applications, eliminating the need for separate metering and relaying instrument transducers.

Wide Dynamic Range
The accuracy specification is maintained over a broad dynamic range - from 5% to 200% of rated voltage.

High Bandwidth
Accurate waveform reproduction from near DC to 6kHz allows full power quality analysis of harmonics and transients with no sensor-imposed limitations.

Light Weight Composite Insulator
Both the pedestal mounted and bus-mounted versions are available. Field -proven lightweight composite insulator reducing transportation costs, substation support structure requirements and installation equipment demands. The light weight design allows location in seismically active areas.

Intrinsically Safe, Environmentally Friendly Design
The column does not contain mineral oil, cellulose insulations, or SF6 gas and the high voltage and ground electrodes are widely separated at the top and bottom of the column. There is no internal mechanism for violent failure to endanger personnel or adjacent equipment. There are no environmental concerns or gas to recycle. With an optical design there is no concern with ferro-resonance.

Low Maintenance
The NXVT has no active components at line potential eliminating the need for costly outages to maintain the electronics. Since there is no insulating oil or paper there are no complex maintenance procedures. The polymeric insulating column employs silicone rubber sheds that do not require live-line washing.
