COSI Technology

Our Technology, expertise and experience are our best assets

Alstom Grid Current Transformer (CT) is a high-end solution developed by tPhase (now part of Alstom Grid Instrument Transformers), the USA’s recognized pioneer in Optical Current Transformers. Our optical products are installed around the world in more than 300 substations in 19 countries.

CT has already been accredited by New York ISO, California ISO, Lapem Mexico, Measurement Canada and Gost in Russia.

In March 2010, to meet the specific requirements of Chinese Smart Grid, CT underwent a dynamic simulation test on a 500 kV transformer substation protection relay in the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI). This is an example of how Alstom Grid is using CT to support the development of Smart Grids, since today’s power grids need to deliver more energy with greater flexibility and in a more complex environment – using the same infrastructure.

Accuracy Leader

With its leadership in measurement accuracy, Alstom Grid can offer special custom calibration equipment. For example, the CT-F3 flexible closed loop current transformer (accuracy level: 0.04%) ordered by the Shanghai Electric Power Company in March is highly suitable for use as high-precision standard equipment in substations. With a rated current range of 100 A to 100 kA and an accuracy of up to 0.04%, the CT-F3 closed loop as a check-standard current transformer can be used to calibrate other current transformers.
